Welcome back! Monday and Tuesday, students will be completing their iReady assessment for reading. Towards the end of the week, we will be moving away from Unit 1. In Unit 2, the focus will be looking at elements and theme of mythology in our class book, "The Lightning Thief."
Each day, the reading homework will be posted on Google Classroom. After completing their homework, students are required to either submit the assignment and/or mark as complete. If students do not mark as complete, they will not receive credit for the homework.
Lastly, interested in joining student council? If so, look through the student council information packet located on the Hilburn Academy homepage under the "Students" tab. Look through the packet and if you will be able to join, complete the applicant packet (which is located under the Info Packet. All paperwork and speeches are due on September 20 (Friday) to Mr. C.
If you have any questions, please send me an email. Have a great week!

September 3-6
This week, students are working on using evidence from the text when answering questions about The Lightning Thief. So far, we have read chapters 1-4. You can support your child by giving them a surprise quiz! Make sure to ask your child to use evidence from the text to support their response. Our main two Learning Targets for this week was for students to be able to:
1. Use evidence from the text to answer questions about Percy in The Lightning Thief.
2. Determine the meaning of unfamiliar words by figuring out the words prefix and/or use context clues
Each night this week, students had homework. Students are encouraged to write their homework down so they do not forget it. If your child does not have an agenda, it can be a helpful tool for students who easily forget their assignments. Lastly, pages 11-12 were graded for accuracy of responses and correct grammar. Students are encouraged to make any necessary changes before turning it in on Monday, September 9.
